Case Studies

Biodiversity Strategy

In 2018 we were engaged by a client to advise on a strategy for the post-2020 biodiversity framework on issues pertaining to the health-environment nexus. We were invited to speak on margins of the Fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, regarding innovations in data science towards the achievements of both the Aichi Targets and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this assignment, GEF also participated at the 2018 UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and advised on the achievement of the Aichi Targets by addressing health related issues and linkages between SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

UNDP Rapid Review

In 2019, GEF completed an Independent Rapid Review for a UNDP Country Office for a USD 9M biodiversity project funded by the Global Environment Facility. In so doing, GEF led a consultative workshop to define the project’s Work Breakdown Structure, drafted a Theory of Change that was missing altogether, revamped the project’s Strategic Results Framework to pare down the number of sub-optimal indicators to a more manageable number of SMART KPIs, as well as provided capacity to the UNDP Country Office on Organizational Change Management and best practices in Program Delivery. Our firm also re-validated the project baseline against the Project Document, redrafted Terms of Reference for each of the project’s pilot demonstration initiatives and drafted Statements of Work for key experts and consultants expected to delivery key project components.
